Amãna Bank June 15, 2023

Responding to a national need, Amãna Bank recently adopted a 1990 Suwa Seriya Ambulance as part of its commitment to support the people of Sri Lanka, which resonates with the Bank's people-friendly banking model.

Established by Act of Parliament and operating a fleet of 297 ambulances, The 1990 Suwa Seriya Service provides island-wide free pre-hospital emergency care to all Sri Lankans with an average response time of 11:30 minutes. Saving countless lives, 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance has been the go to ambulance for many medical emergencies and the benefit of such was seen during the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the 1990 Suwa Seriya service facing severe financial constraints due to the socio-economic crisis of the country, Amãna Bank's much yearned donation will support its operational costs, including ambulance maintenance, fuel, medical equipment maintenance, staff refresher training, purchasing staff uniforms and staff safety equipment.

Commenting on Adopting a 1990 Suwa Seriya Ambulance, Amana Bank’s Managing Director/CEO Mohamed Azmeer said, "Resonating with our passion towards enabling growth and enriching lives of Sri Lankans, we at Amana Bank are committed to support initiatives that make a meaningful impact on all Sri Lankans. We believe that access to quality healthcare is a basic right, and we are proud to sponsor this endeavor that saves lives and brings relief to those in need. The 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service is an important emergency medical care resource that has made a significant impact due to its efficient process and we are very much honoured to respond to their appeal and support their noble mission of providing free pre-hospital care services to all Sri Lankans."

Also appreciating Amana Bank’s gesture, Chairman of 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation Dumindra Ratnayake said “We are thankful to Amana Bank for accepting our appeal to ‘Adopt an ambulance’ and thereby join hands with many other like-minded corporates to support the smooth functioning of our ambulance services. This contribution testifies the appreciation shown by the corporate sector to the service we have been rendering”

Amãna Bank has been actively involved in various healthcare projects as part of its commitment to the people of Sri Lanka. Since 2006, the bank has been supporting the maintenance of the Children's Ward at Colombo South (Kalubowila) Teaching Hospital. It has also made sizeable contributions to the Government's Covid-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund, provided life-saving medical equipment and medicines to leading government hospitals, and partnered with the UNDP Emergency Medical Relief Programme, among other initiatives.
